Sophia & William: Across Oceans to "I Do"
Sophia never expected to find love during a business conference in Orlando, especially not with someone who lived over 4,000 miles away. But that’s exactly what happened when she, a marketing executive from London, met William, an Orlando native and fellow marketing professional.
“It was just supposed to be a week-long conference at the Orange County Convention Center,” Sophia recalls with a smile. “I certainly wasn’t planning to meet my husband between breakout sessions on digital marketing trends!”
Their connection was immediate and profound but also complicated by geography. After the conference ended, they faced the daunting prospect of a transatlantic relationship. For the next two years, they navigated time zones, expensive flights, and the challenges of building a relationship during brief, precious visits.
“We became experts at creative date nights over FaceTime,” William laughs. “I’d send her food delivery from London restaurants while I ordered the same meal in Orlando, and we’d dine ‘together’ despite being an ocean apart.”
When William proposed during Sophia’s Christmas visit to Orlando, they faced a new challenge: planning an international wedding. The couple decided Orlando would be their wedding destination, allowing William’s large extended family to attend while giving Sophia’s smaller family a vacation to remember.
“The logistics were overwhelming initially,” Sophia admits. “As a non-American, I had no idea how to navigate getting a Florida wedding license or what legal requirements we needed to address.”

That’s when they discovered Orlando Wedding Officiants. “From our first video consultation with Orlando Wedding Officiants, they were incredibly helpful about the international aspects of our marriage. They outlined exactly what documentation I would need coming from the UK and how the process would work.”
Their officiant from Orlando Wedding Officiants helped them design a ceremony that honored both American and British traditions, creating a unique blending of cultures. They chose Lake Nona as their venue, with its beautiful water views and elegant reception facilities.
“Our officiant from Orlando Wedding Officiants suggested we incorporate elements from both cultures,” William explains. “We included a traditional Celtic handfasting ceremony to honor Sophia’s Scottish heritage alongside American wedding traditions. Orlando Wedding Officiants even helped us write vows that acknowledged our international journey and commitment to building a life together despite the obstacles we’d faced.”
The ceremony itself became the perfect symbol of their relationship – a beautiful blend of two cultures united by love. Friends and family from both sides of the Atlantic watched as Sophia and William promised to continue navigating life’s challenges together, just as they had navigated the Atlantic divide.
“What made the ceremony truly special was how personal it felt,” Sophia says. “Our officiant from Orlando Wedding Officiants took the time to understand our story – the late-night calls, the airport reunions, the sacrifices we’d both made to be together. They wove those details into a ceremony that felt authentic and deeply meaningful.”
After their wedding, Sophia relocated to Orlando, beginning yet another chapter in their international love story. The couple now live in Windermere, where they’ve started a marketing consultancy together.
